What is LASAP ?

The Louisiana Association of Student Assistance Programs, affectionately known as LASAP is the state organization of the US Department of Education TRiO Programs. Its membership includes Louisiana TRiO professionals, alumni, and associates, as well as institutional members. These TRiO Programs provide services to help students who have been historically excluded from post-secondary education.   Providing higher education opportunities to low income, first generation and underrepresented individuals is the primary purpose of these programs.

Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math/Science, Veterans Upward Boundand Educational Opportunity Centers assist in the preparation for successful admission into college. Student Support Services assists students with college completion; and Ronald E. McNair Programs assist students with preparation to enroll and complete doctoral programs. Currently LASAP has nearly $19 million to service over 17,000 students in 52 such programs.

LASAP supports its membership and constituents through annual conferences, lobbying efforts, TRiO day celebrations, and a host of collaborative endeavors. LASAP is a member of the national support organization, the Council for Opportunity in Education and the regional organization, Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs.
